On a recent cool, autumnal Friday night on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont, people strolled with frozen yogurt, kids tore up and down the sidewalks after “ballroom,” and live music wafted from an open door as people sat chatting at tables both inside and out.
Live music?
Friday night in Larchmont?
“This is just the beginning,” said John Minotti of Sunshine Coffee Roasters. Â And if you’ve been around while, you might recognize John. He hasn’t left the building.
Sunshine is known to most locals as the former Aroma Coffee Roast, a colorful mainstay for years here, where regulars swore by the beans roasted in back by then-owner David Nadelson. That Aroma survived, and attracted a loyal following once Starbucks opened across the street in 2003, is impressive enough, but the coffee beans roasted there are sold to restaurants throughout the State.

Part of Aroma survives. Nadelson is still roasting in the back. But Sunshine has taken over, with new owners Minotti, and Michael and Debbie Contopoulos, of Larchmont.
Live music Fridays and a rotating artists show are some of what they have in mind for the future.
Over President’s Day weekend they plan to renovate the space using reclaimed wood and concrete. “Brooklyn Hip meets Westchester,” says Michael.
“It’s just a great opportunity to do what I’ve always wanted to do here,” Minotti says.
Come by for coffee, tea, pastries and bagels, and now, soups and more.
Sunshine Coffee Roasters, 1932 Palmer Avenue, Larchmont  Open 6am-6pm weekdays, Saturday 7am-6pm and Sunday 7 am- 4 pm.
