Childrens Ampitheatre Dedicated to 9/11 Victim

Amys greenhouse amphitheater

Amy’s Greenhouse is a rare local gem that grew from the ashes of 9-11.  Amy O’Doherty was the 23 year old daughter of a since retired Barnard Pre-K teacher, Geraldine Davie.  Amy perished on September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center where she worked as a broker’s assistant for Cantor Fitzgerald at her first job.

Amy O’Doherty loved children and sunflowers;  her mother worked tirelessly to create this greenhouse so that people would remember her daughter’s with joy, learning and fun.

On Wednesday, September 11th, the Amy’s Greenhouse Committee and Barnard School will host their annual 9-11 ceremony at 3:30pm.  The event will take place at Amy’s Greenhouse, Barnard School, 129 Barnard Road, New Rochelle.

The committe will be unveiling a children’s amphitheater on the grounds of Amy’s Greenhouse.  The amphitheater was installed over Labor Day weekend.

Geraldine Davie, Amy O’Doherty’s mother, will speak at the event.  There will be two additional musical performances during the ceremony — two Metropolitan Opera of New York City singers will perform on the patio; and Emmanuel Zogo, baritone from New Rochelle High School will sing.

Numerous benefactors include Frank Miceli and crew from Sammarco Stone and Supply; Michael Smith, architect, of Pucillo Architects; Carl Calo from Ace Banner; Larchmont Nursery; and others.

Just wanted to add the following — Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Daniel Ilich and Parkchester Kiwanis Club we received materials. Peduto Construction Company with President Nick Peduto and son-in-law Greg Pappas donated the labor of a large construction crew, additional material, heavy equipment, knowledge and skills. Pappas wife is the current Barnard PTA President, Michelle Peduto-Pappas. The couple has three children, some of whom attend Barnard.
