Chatsworth Raises Thousands for Japan

Kids in Motion karate class

Chatsworth Elementary School students set into motion following the devastating Japanese earthquake in March, impressively raising more than $9,000 for relief efforts.

Following the kids’ week-long “Kids In Motion” fundraiser in April, the students donation last week was distributed through the Japan Society to four nonprofit relief organizations.

Each day for a week, Chatsworth students devoted time to activities, including fitness programs and planting flowers, to help build cultural awareness of Japan and raise money for the cause.

Students watched a video prepared by the Japanese parents and learned how the children in northeast Japan are coping since the earthquake.  At the end of the video, a former Chatsworth student  Yuichiro Tomita who moved back to Tokyo last year explained “the ground was moving like a magic carpet” when the earthquake hit, and expressed a big “thank you” to his old friends.
