Car Plunges into Echo Bay in New Rochelle, Killing Two

The deceased are Ralph Simpson and Arlene Simpson (Husband-Wife) both aged 74 and New Rochelle residents.

Two people are dead after an SUV crashed through a railing and into the waters of Echo Bay from Hudson Park in New Rochelle Tuesday. The victims are believed to be New Rochelle residents in their mid-70’s.

Divers pulled the driver, a man, from the submerged vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. During the recovery of the car, divers also found a woman inside.

New Rochelle Police responded to the scene after receiving a call at 2:54 pm.

According to City Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller, “The car was weaving around the parking lot, so presuming he was having some kind of medical episode at the time and then ended up going through the guardrail here into the water.”
