Broad Daylight Knife Attack in Downtown New Rochelle

Police say the attack “appears to have been random and unprovoked.” The 38 year-old victim was found sitting on the Main Street sidewalk a block east of New Roc City with a steak knife sticking out of his back.

It happened Saturday morning just before 9, the victim was in extreme pain and the assailant had fled by the time New Rochelle police arrived.  A spokesman for the department says they “were able to develop information on a female suspect,” and arrested 44 year-old Autumn Graham near Library Green about 3:30 that afternoon.

New Rochelle Police Captain Cosmo Costa says there is no indication the suspect and victim knew each other or exchanged words before the assault.

The victim’s name was not released but is described as an Hispanic resident of New Rochelle.  The suspect is black and her last know address was a homeless shelter in the city.  No motive has been offered.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announcedAutumn Graham was arraigned Monday afternoon in New Rochelle City Court on a charge of Assault in the First Degree, a class B felony, and remanded into custody. She is due back in court Aug. 19.
