Popular Port Chester hot spot bartaco reopened Thursday after a temporary County Health Dept. shutdown due to potential Hepatitis A exposure.
Hepatitis A is a viral liver disease that can cause mild to severe illness.
The Westchester County Department of Health issued an alert on Wednesday warning that anyone who ate or drank at bartaco between Oct. 12 and Oct. 23 receive preventive treatment against the viral illness after an employee worked while infectious.
The health department will offer free preventive treatment at the County Center in White Plains for people who ate or drank at bartaco in Port Chester during this time period.
The health department will offer preventive treatment on the following dates and times:
- Thursday, October 26 from 4:00 – 7:45 p.m.
- Friday, October 27 from 12:00 – 4:45 p.m.
- Saturday, October 28 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Bartaco was shut down on Wednesday and re-opened on Thursday afternoon following an inspection. Officials said they have been cooperative and voluntarily vaccinated each of their employees for the illness.

Yes, I was one of the lucky patrons during that time and got my shot last evening. It’s my understanding (from multiple sources) their employees have been wearing gloves the past few weeks. Seems as if they may have known something before it was shared with the general public. Really unfortunate.
