Mindfulness hike at Sheldrake

Sheldrake Environmental Center’s popular Guided Mindfulness Hikes with local naturalist Cindy Olsen, a Kripalu Certified Outdoor Mindful Guide, recently won a “Best of Westchester” award from Westchester Magazine.  Sheldrake’s 60 acres of forest, meadows, pond, reservoir, and wildlife provide a special setting for Olsen’s unique outdoor program.

The magazine notes: “Her hour-long Guided Mindfulness Hikes offer more than just gentle exercise: mindful walking to quietly observe the woods and gather over Olsen’s made-from-nature teas — it’s a restorative, refreshing, and eye-opening gift you can give yourself.”

An upcoming monthly summer session of Guided Mindfulness Hikes begins Sat. Aug. 3. from 10 to 11 am. The monthly sessions will include some movements to warm up, mindful breathing, hiking with awareness, nature meditation, and an opportunity to share your experience and build community with a tea ceremony. The event embraces all weather, with adjustments made as needed. Cost is $10.

The summer sessions meet at Pinebrook Tennis Courts in New Rochelle to enter the forest from that location.

  1. Cindy is the sweetest! Met her coming off a bird-watching class with Doug. Such spectacular experts resident to our towns’ centers. The Sheldrake is beautiful, definitely worth a look. I recommend going early early in the morning, when the other animals get out.
