Head out on the town to check out some great deals from local merchants and mingle with other residents.   The East Coast National Baseball Card Show is coming to the Westchester County Center this weekend. Head over between 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday to check out an impressive collection of baseball cards and memorabilia.

                        FRIDAY   The Westchester County Center is holding an Open Gym Friday evening from 6 – 10 p.m. for high school students. There will be basketball, foosball, board games, knock hockey and plenty of other Westchester high schoolers to hang out with.   Rye’s Fireworks are being shot off on Friday at 9:15 p.m. Head over to the free show (parking is $5) and get a great seat right on the boardwalk.     SATURDAY   Have you tried Stroller Strides of New Roc yet? You’ve got nothing to lose.

The final shows are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. $24 general admission; $20 students and seniors.   Head out to Scarsdale’s Crossway Park for a Movie in the Park on Friday at 9 p.m. Enjoy a screening of Monsters vs. Aliens with the whole family to kick off the weekend.   Playland’s weekly Fireworks are being shot off again this Friday at 9:15 p.m. Head over to the boardwalk to get a full view of the show.

Get outdoors, pamper your pet and walk to the supermarket (with your cart….)                   COMMUNITY    Check out a full-dome experience of Astronaut—like nothing on Earth, on Friday at 8 p.m. New Rochelle High School’s planetarium is offering a free 45-minute showing of a stunning, out of this world view of outer space. Then, head to the roof to use some real life telescopes to check out the moon, Saturn, Mars and Venus.   Pick up some thrifty ways to shop for groceries and make healthy choices with the League of Women voters of Larchmont and Mamaroneck’s Walk to the Supermarket on Saturday. The walk kicks off at 9:30 a.m. at Chatsworth Avenue School and will include stops at Stop & Shop, Trader Joe’s and A&P. Email to register.

This weekend…learn about plants, gimme shelter and visit Thomas Paine.           COMMUNITY   Stop by the New Rochelle Public Library this Friday between 9 – 3 p.m. to check out their monthly Used Book Sale, located at the west end of the lobby. There will be an assortment of adult and children’s books, CDs, DVDs, video and audio cassettes, paperbacks, cookbooks and gift books available for purchase.   The Elmsford Animal Shelter is offering Professional Pet Portraits this Saturday from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. A cash donation of $25 for the shelter or a 35+ pound bag of dog or cat food will be necessary to sit for a 10-minute session. Each pet will receive a 5×7 gift print.

And have a safe and happy 4th.               MAMARONECK   The Village of Mamaroneck’s Firemen’s Carnival is running every evening (until 11 or 12 at night) through Monday at Harbor Island Park. Be sure to stop by and enjoy the tons of rides, food vendors, games and more! Armbands are $25 a piece and give you access to all rides and games every day but Sunday.

Be sure to come and check out all of the great deals available from local businesses for this special occasion.   Champagne, wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served up at the Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild Gallery in Larchmont this Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. to celebrate the opening of Art for Animals/Animals in Art, an exhibit benefiting the Pet Rescue and Guild. There will be a live auction and original artwork for purchase for this show running through Saturday.
