Apartments Proposed on Myrtle Blvd in Larchmont

wash square
You may have heard of a proposal to add new apartments above a retail area on Myrtle Boulevard, a subject of discussion at the Mamaroneck Town Board. A hearing by the Zoning Board is expected soon.

The proposed four story project would rest atop stores on Myrtle Blvd., including Gjoko’s Salon and Larchmont Nail Salon. These drawings were sent to us by a resident.

Residents and neighbors at 2 Washington Square say the addition will block light and views, reduce available parking, and affect their property values.

What do you think?

Hey folks it’s only 9 apartments, not 90. If the owner of the property wants to improve his property, & build a tasteful place for people to live & add tax revenue to the town, why not see what it’s all about before attacking them???

What’s next? The air space above Couglin Insurance? Or above NYSC? Stop the insanity now!

Is there more detail available through the loop as to how many apartments are proposed?

The area around Washington Square is already quite densely settled and the soon to be occupied Cambium will make it even more so.

Are the proposed apartments either necessary or desirable? Or could it be said that they are both unnecessary and undesirable?

We understand it to be 3 stories, 9 apartments.

The proposal was for nine 1 bedroom units above the existing structure at 176 Myrtle Blvd. Are these nine units desirable? Being that they would be a commuters dream location I would think so, the train station is walking distance across the street and the 95 is one block away as well so I think that would definitley count as desirable. Also, within walking distance is local restaurants, shopping, employment centers, recreation facilities and parks. “The town engaged BFJ Planning to consider the best way to better encourage and support the construction of housing affordable to a variety of households, income and ages in areas where public services and facilities essential to such development are adequate. A comprehensive study was conducted by BFJ and BFJ prepared a Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) which was supported by the town. It was further determined that a proposed 4 story forty-four foot height residential mixed use structure at Myrtle Boulevard would have NO ADVERSE IMPACT or AFFECT on the neighborhood and the restricted height would PRESERVE AN OPEN SKY VIEW. The DGEIS determined that there was NO ADVERSE IMPACT ON VIEWS as the height restriction would STILL PRESERVE VEIWS of the open sky and further determined that there were NO material adverse impacts relative to Myrtle Boulevard.” That quote was taken from the Rider of Gjoko Shkreli’s application to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
