Agreement on Medical Marijuana in New York

A number of local families have rallied for legalization of medical marijuana to help their children.  Now it appears New York State state is getting closer to providing access to the drug when used for medical therapy.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other legislative leaders Thursday unveiled a pilot program to offer marijuana for medicinal purposes, according to The New York Times.

Political leaders have negotiated for several weeks on a system that could gradually introduce  legal medical access to marijuana. The report says the new agreement included a major demand of the Cuomo administration: that no smoking of the drug would be permitted, though a variety of other options — including edibles and tinctures — would be.

Patients would also be allowed to inhale if the drug was vaporized, similar to e-cigarettes.
