Here’s a rundown of area Memorial Day festivities:
Thursday, May 26
Larchmont Memorial Day parade. Kicks off at the Larchmont train station, and ends up at the Fire House with hot dogs for all. 6:45 p.m.
Saturday, May 28
Rye: Memorial Day ceremony, African-American cemetery adjacent to the Greenwood Union Cemetery, 215 North St. 10 a.m.
Sunday, May 29:
Westchester County Veterans and Service Member Appreciation Day at Rye Playland: A special day at Playland that includes The West Point Band and a demonstration by the U.S. Marine Corps (weather and aircraft permitting).
Rye Playland, 100 Playland Parkway, Rye; Sunday, May 29, 11 a.m., (parking opens). The park will be open from Noon to 11 p.m. (registration will go until 5 p.m.) Veterans receive one free admission, free parking and family members receive a discount.
Monday May 30
The annual Scarsdale Memorial Day Parade starts at Boniface Circle in Scarsdale Village at 9:30 am
White Plains Memorial Day Parade at 10 am. Area organizations will parade from White Plains Library to the rural cemetery on North Broadway. A memorial service will follow the parade.
The United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association of New Rochelle and the City of New Rochelle will again present the Memorial Day Parade on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2011. This year’s event is by Monroe College.
The parade will begin with a brief ceremony at Memorial Plaza at 10:30 am and will kick off around 11 am up Memorial Highway to Huguenot Street, North Avenue and finally Pelham Road into Hudson Park for a waterfront ceremony honoring those lost at sea.
