Police Blotter: Lost in Scarsdale

CRIME OF THE WEEK:  A Scarsdale resident reported a distraught middle-aged woman on Jefferson Road wearing a long coat and carrying a suitcase at about 10 p.m. Police located the woman, who said she had just arrived from South Carolina and had been dropped off at the wrong house by a taxi. While police were speaking with the woman, her friend arrived to pick her up. Dec. 27

TOWN OF MAMARONECK

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
A mirror on a 2009 Dodge Caliber was damaged while it was parked in a Richbell Road parking lot between Dec. 30-31.  Dec. 31

GRAND LARCENY
Jerome F. Healy, a 47-year-old New Rochelle man, was charged with two counts of grand larceny after allegedly stealing jewelry and money from a Villa Road relative. On Jan. 3, Healy allegedly took a diamond engagement ring and a charm bracelet, valued at a total of $2,000. He was also accused of taking more than $3,300 from two bank accounts belonging to the victim between Dec. 22 and Jan. 2.

LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT
A 19-year-old West Boston Post Road man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after the BMW he was driving allegedly struck an unoccupied car on Winged Foot Drive sometime in the early-morning hours. The man told police he lost control of his car and struck a snow bank, but said he has no further recollection of the accident. Jan 5

POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
A 23-year-old Harrison man was charged with larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance at about 7:30 p.m.  Police said the man left Stop & Shop at 1326 Boston Post Road without paying for two boxes of Pop Tarts and bars of soap. Upon his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle and a plastic bag containing prescription medicine.  Jan. 6

VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK

LARCENY
An unknown person entered an unlocked vehicle at Harbor Island Park sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. and removed a briefcase containing personal papers and keys. Dec. 31

LARCENY
An unknown person took approximately $250 in cash from a locker at New York Sports Club on Palmer Avenue around 11 a.m. Dec. 31

FRAUD
An unknown person cashed a fraudulent check in New Jersey in the amount of $4,000 from a Mamaroneck resident’s account. Jan. 2

LARCENY
A stroller that was left outside on Tompkins Avenue on Dec. 20 was reported missing. Jan. 3

AUTO ACCIDENT
Three pedestrians were taken to the hospital after they were struck by a car driven by a 61-year-old Port Chester man at the corner of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Bishop Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. The driver, who said he was unable to see the group due to sun glare, was issued a summons.  The pedestrians, a 4-year-old boy, a 32-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, were treated for head, back and leg/foot injuries. Jan.  3

VIOLATIONS
A 34-year-old New Jersey man was charged with consuming alcohol in a public place and possession of an open container of alcohol, both violations, at about 6:30 p.m. on Van Ranst Place. Jan. 4

ARREST
A 34-year-old Harrison man was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument for allegedly having a forged temporary tag/license plate on his truck after police pulled him over at about 1:30 p.m. on Mamaroneck Avenue. Jan. 5

MISSING PROPERTY
A Library Lane resident said an envelope containing Christmas gifts that was sent from her mother was missing. The woman told police that she shares a common area for mail with other residents of the apartment complex. The envelope was reportedly delivered by the postal service on Dec. 21. Jan. 5

RYE

GRAND LARCENY
Seven to 10 samurai swords and three or four inoperable long gun display rifles from World War II were apparently stolen from a locked storage facility at a Milton Road apartment complex. The items were believed to have gone missing sometime between Dec. 5 and Jan. 1. Jan. 2

HARASSMENT
A woman told police that her 15-year-old daughter was struck by several different patients in a restroom at Rye Hospital Center on Jan 3. Jan.  4

MISSING PROPERTY
A Harbor Terrace Drive resident said her kayak, which was last seen on Dec. 25, was missing. The woman said she was unsure if it was stolen or if it had floated away. Jan. 5

LARCENY
Copper valued at $3,000 was reportedly stolen from a construction site on Old Post Road sometime overnight. Jan. 5

LARCENY
A Waters Edge resident said two bikes that were locked together were stolen from the parking garage sometime in early December. Jan. 5

IDENTITY THEFT
A Green Avenue man said an unknown person withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from his bank account. The branch was notified. Jan. 6

SCARSDALE

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
An Overlook Road resident said a black or Hispanic male was peering through the windows of a neighboring home at about 4:30 p.m. Police were unable to locate the subject. Dec. 27

HIT AND RUN
A hit-and run accident was reported in the Wilgrin parking lot on Palmer Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. No injuries were reported. Dec. 28

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A caller said kids were throwing eggs from a car on Mamaroneck Road at about 10 p.m. Police were unable to locate the subjects. Dec. 28

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
An Autenreith Road housekeeper told police that power in the home went out at about 8 p.m. and she believes someone is in the residence. Police checked the interior of the residence and found everything in order and noted that all exterior doors and windows were intact. Police determined that a fuse had blown. Dec. 29

ARREST
A 49-year-old Parkfield Road resident turned himself in at about 11:45 a.m. on charges of the leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to use due care to a pedestrian. The charges stemmed from a Nov. 24 incident, in which the suspect allegedly ran over a woman’s foot. Dec. 30

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A caller reported a coyote on Brittany Close at about 8:30 p.m. Police were unable to locate the animal. Dec. 30

YOUTH COMPLAINT
A caller reported disorderly youths on Walworth Avenue just before midnight. Police arrived to find an adult-supervised party and said everything was in order. Dec. 30

FIGHT IN PROGRESS
A caller said there was a fight on Bell Road between four youths, two males and two females, at about 3 a.m. Police located the group and saw no suspicious or criminal activity. Dec. 31

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A Carstensen Road resident said her neighbor called to tell her that there was an unknown pickup truck in her driveway at about 1 p.m.  The resident requested a check of the home. Police arrived and found another Carstensen Road resident in the driveway. The woman told police she had stopped her car in her neighbor’s driveway to talk on the phone. She further stated that she knew the residents were away and she pulled over in their driveway because hers was still covered in snow. Police conducted a perimeter check and found all in order. Dec. 31

ASSIST CITIZEN
A River Road resident said numerous uninvited guests had arrived at her home with alcohol at about 11:30 p.m. and were refusing to leave. Dec. 31

YOUTH COMPLAINT
Police received a report of a large group of youths in the Greenacres Avenue area throwing snowballs at cars at about 12:30 a.m. Police spoke with the youths, who were waiting for a taxi. Police did not observe any snowballs being thrown. Jan. 1

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A Sharon Lane resident said a raccoon has been sitting by his front steps for 24 hours and believes it may be sick. Police located the animal in the front flowerbed at about 11 a.m., and determined that it was dead.  The resident agreed to dispose of its remains. Jan. 1

ANIMAL COMPLAINT
A Kensington Road resident said a coyote was walking down the street at about 3 a.m. The animal, she said, could be injured. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the animal. Jan. 2

ASSIST CITIZEN
A Brewster Road woman requested help at about 2:30 p.m. after her 3-year-old daughter locked herself in the bathroom. Police were able to help the child unlock the door. Jan. 2
