150 Years of Fire: New Rochelle Exhibit

The exhibit, “New Rochelle’s Bravest: 150th Anniversary Serving New Rochelle” is on view in the New Rochelle Public Library’s Lumen Winter Gallery until August 12, 2011, during regular library hours.

A special reception on Wednesday, July 20th at 6:00 pm will give residents an opportunity to personally thank Chief Raymond “Doc” Kiernan, who is retiring as Fire Department Commissioner on July 30th after 45 years of exceptional service to his community.

The exhibit includes archival photographs from the library’s Domenick Bruzzese Photograph Collection and Local History Collection as well as wonderful artifacts from the New Rochelle Fire Department Among the items are an original “net” used to catch people jumping from burning buildings, an 1894 Chemical Tank, medals, station bells, and other items that describe the long history of New Rochelle’s professional fire department and earlier volunteer companies.
